History of Enelis – Video Series
.
Timeline of Enelis
The following is an incomplete summary of all the major events in Enelis’s history. Most of the focus is on Ularin and the societies of the eastern coasts, or how those societies were influenced by outside forces. Many of the events in the early ages are speculative based on ancient stories and myths passed down by oral tradition. All dates are listed in Goldwall Reckoning (G.R.), which is an arbitrary tracking of the years still used today. It marks the official end of the Nomen Empire and the return of the grand city of Goldwall to a republic government. Entries marked with an asterisk (*) were events related to recent adventures and campaigns within the world of Enelis.
The Age of Dragons
.
Unknown (According to dragons, at least 100,000,000 years ago) – Dragons are created as the first sentient beings of the new world of Enelis. Dragons ruled the world; the land, the sea, and the air.
Unknown – Enis created the First-born, who appeared in many places across Enelis. Nembral and Solarus transformed the First-born on the continents of Nastus and Alarus, which would eventually evolve into the Dohkan and Nomendrie respectively.
Unknown – Furious with the manipulation of her creation, Enis created a magical barrier forever separating Enelis from divine intervention. Enis then created the moon goddess Pelaria to guard this barrier and oversee the fate and freewill of the First-born and their descendants.
~ -100,000 G.R. – – The Firstborn begin to take affinity with their surroundings, becoming the many various humanoid ancestries.
.
The Time of the Elves
~ -40,000 G.R. – The ancient elves of Ularin discover the use of magic by observing the dragons who prey on them. They begin gaining a foothold against the ruling dragons.
~ -20,000 G.R. – The elves expand greatly throughout the eastern coasts of Ularin, slowly defeating the regional dragon overlords.
~ -15,000 G.R. – Elven Expansion. Many elven civilizations grow and rule over the eastern portions of Ularin, diminishing the already failing might of the dragons. Five distinct Elven ancestries developed. The Stelmar created the great civilization of Astrearvis that ruled the eastern coasts with a sprawling magical civilization with their glass-like cities. The Sulmar created the society of Magenaarvis, ruling the northern Aegis Forest, constructing cities of stone and crystal upon the lakes. The Ethmar remained scattered as small tribes throughout the river valleys between the mountains and the coast, building trade networks between the other elven societies. Likewise, the Thunmar were scattered as separated tribes and villages throughout the southern Aegis Forest on both sides of the mountains. The Shadmar kingdom of Tenearvis kingdom mastered metalcraft and ruled throughout the eastern mountains.
~ -13,000 G.R. – Reptilian Expansion. The Serpentfolk empire of Ssithis dominated the southern jungles of Ularin and the islands of the Selicean Sea. The Lizardfolk dominated as many various clans along the deserts and tropical forests of the Xalaca peninsula. These empires tried to expand their dominion over the other humanoid tribes and often fought against each other.
~ -12,000 G.R. – The Fall of Helios. The Jotun civilization of Helios prospers on the continent of Polarus. The Titans of Helios challenge the gods and Polarus slowly drifts to the north pole. The Jotuns flee and scatter to Ularin. On the new continent, the various ancestries of the Jotuns begin to diverge and take shape.
~ -11,000 G.R. – The Stellebras (Star-Warmth) was created by the Sulmar and Stelmar archmagi. This magical barrier, powered by the light of the stars, connected the mountains surrounding the Lake of Stars in Enaarvis, creating a region with an unvarying climate throughout the year.
~ -10,000 G.R. – Jotun Expansion. The northern portions of Ularin become dominated by Jotun clans who fight with each other for control of the region.
.
The Age of Ascension
~ -8000 G.R. – The First Rage of Dragons. The dragons waged a genocidal war with the star elves of Astrearvis leaving their civilization in ruins and exterminating all their people. The other elven tribes united to form the Kingdom of Four Crowns of Enaarvis and pushed back against the draconic scourge, preventing their own elimination.
~ -7800 G.R. – The Quest for the Land of Stars Begins. The Dwarves of the Deep began the Thrynmirland, the Quest for the Land of Stars. They left the darkness of their underground caverns, and sought the surface world above them. They travelled through the Grimdrinkrinsli, the Endless Road of Shadows, through the dark caverns of the Deep Underground.
~ -7500 G.R. – Appearance of Humans. Humans began to appear as loose hunter-gatherer tribes, expanding along the eastern coasts to the northern and southern parts of the continent. Some human tribes (the proto-Xayadrie) find themselves magically transported to the southern peninsula of Xelhasa, possibly by an incarnation of Abalassi the Skyfather and Hatsi-Enib the Landmother (at least according to ancient Xaya legends).
Orc tribes gained some resistance against the Serpentfolk of the southern marshes, expanding in the south. Many halflings migrated from the western grasslands to the southern hills of the eastern coasts (in what is now Kalrua and Loyolla). Gnolls ruled over the southwestern savannahs and deserts as the goblinoids controlled much of the rocky southern coasts.
~ -7100 G.R.– The Braellheim Empire Founded. The Jotun empire of Braellheim was formed as the varying tribes and clans of Jotuns are united under one commanding banner. The new empire stretches from across the mountains to the coasts, encompassing most of the northlands. It is led by a group of powerful cloud and storm giants who created a common enemy out of the smaller humanoids. Most of the proto-Noradrie human tribes are enslaved by giants as servants and laborers. The humans that fled enslavement to the north and west become the proto-Dyrferd tribes, which settled to the far northern reaches of the Whitepeak Forests, Hashan Plateau, and Northrim mountains.
~ -7000 G.R. – Appearance of the Dwarves. The Dwarven clans led by Thaladin Kalgeddin, appeared on the continent of Polarus from within its lonely mountain at the frozen pole. They continued their quest, the Thrynmirland, heading south into Ularin.
~ -6900 G.R. – Peak of the Braellheim Empire. The Jotuns dominated the northern coasts and built many mighty cities and monuments throughout the region with their human and goblin slaves.
~-6800 G.R. – The southbound Dwarves spent two centuries pushing their way south, fighting against the Jotuns who seemed to block their travels. The Dwarven clans crossed the Frost Lake and reached the northern lands. They began to settle in the Northrim mountains and waged a long war against the Jotuns of the Braellheim Empire. The Dwarves’ experience fighting giants along their travels allowed the dwarves to make many early victories against the Jotuns.
~ -6600 G.R. – The Dwarves migrated further southward, freeing human tribes and adding them to their armies. They dealt a great blow to the decadent Braellheim Empire, who lost much of their western lands. Dragons also began to assault the northern region, attacking the Jotun civilization; razing and assaulting their many settlements.
~-6500 G.R. – Promised Land Found. The Dwarves reached the eastern mountains of Ularin, fighting against dragons, the Jotuns, and the diminishing Shadmar for control of the northern portion of what would become the Kalvarian Mountains. The Dwarves founded the first dwarven civilization in the valleys they called Mirbonland (Promised Land of Stars, in the Dwarven language). After many centuries upon the surface, the Thrynmirland was deemed fulfilled and the Dwarves began to carve out great cities within the mountains.
~ -6300 G.R. – The Final Rage of Dragons. The dragons raged across the lands of Ularin from the north. The weakened Jotuns of the Braelheim Empire were unable to defend their territory from the dragon onslaught. The dragons destroyed much of the Jotun civilization and destroyed their hold on the northern region. As the dragons flew south, the Dwarves were able to repel the attack from their new homeland, as most of their civilization was underground and protected. The dragons eventually pushed towards the Elven Kingdom of Four Crowns in Enaarvis. The united Elven nation was again able to repel the scourge of dragons, dealing a final blow to dragonkind. Defeated, most dragons left Ularin as the humanoid races continued to expand upon the continent.
~ -6200 G.R. – The Jotun-Dwarven Began. The Dwarves then begin a prolonged assault on the Jotuns. With the help of the Dwarves, the proto-Noradrie human tribes rebelled against their captors. The Braellheim Empire began to unravel as numerous human slaves broke free and their economy began to collapse. The freed humans gathered into warrior clans to fight back against their oppressors.
~ -6000 G.R. – Dragons arrived on Alarus for the first time. Dragons had split into two distinct groups, the Wrathwyrms and the Waningwyrms. The Wrathwyrms, filled with anger and fury, wanted revenge against the humanoids. These dragons infused the Nembral-tainted Dohkan with their magical bloodlines to create a humanoid ancestry that could dominate and destroy all other humanoids. Meanwhile, the enigmatic Waningwyrm dragons, who had accepted humanoid dominance of the world, remained aloof on Alarus, avoiding contact with the ‘lesser’ ancestries.
~ -5800 G.R. – Jotuns Defeated. The Jotun Braellheim Empire was finally defeated. The giants are hunted and slaughtered by both Dwarves and humans. The few remaining giants are scattered in the region. The victorious human clans becomes the Noradrie, expanding into the now vacant northlands and beyond. The Noradrie also try to expand southwards, and begin to fight with their southern neighbors along the coasts, the Amarie human clans.
~ -5000 G.R. – The metallic dragons introduced themselves to the proto-Nomendrie (High-men) of Alarus and began to teach them the ways of wizardry. They had hoped to counteract the machinations of their brethren and the growing might of Dohkan sorcery.
~ -4500 G.R. – Seldrie tribes of men expanded along the southern coasts and began to compete with the gnolls and goblinoids of the southwestern region.
~ -4150 G.R. – The Dohkan clans began to outgrow their homeland on the Isle of Nastus, ravaging the land with their sorcery. They began to learn of the proto-Nomenir (High-men) to the far south. Meanwhile, the High-men expanded northward as the various clans continued to fight for control of key regions.
.
The Rise of the Nomenir, 1st Age
-4030 G.R. – The Draconia Augorium was written on Alarus by the young dragon-prophet Fortis Nomen, chosen of Numenor, dragon god of nobility and honor. Fortis had spent his young life studying with the platinum dragons of the high mountains, learning the ways of the dragon-gods. He began to share this wisdom of the dragons with his people, who would become the Nomendrie people. The ancient text outlined a cooperative, dutiful code of laws in which civilization could be governed.
-4050 G.R. – The first Nomen Kingdom was created by the paladin-king Fortis Nomen who united the scattered clans of High-men. The kingdom thrived for many generations, expanding across the southern reaches of Alarus, spreading the worship of the dragon-gods and laws of the Draconia Augorium.
-3950 G.R. – The first college of magic was founded in Numenurbis, the capitol of the Nomen Kingdom. The magical arts and sciences are codified and studied, turning sorcery and talent into wizardry and skill.
-3900 G.R. – Arrival of the Arathdrie. Legions of Arathians suddenly appeared from some unknown world. They conquered the southern deserts of Ularin along the Typhen River. They quickly enslaved the local lizardfolk tribes, forming the first Kingdom of Arathkelsara in the name of their savior, the first pharaoh Thorus.
-3850 G.R. – The War of Virtues Began. The Dahkhanic Empire’s armies expanded from the Isle of Nastus and marched southward into Nomen territory, razing and destroying all that came into contact with the marching forces. A long bloody war was fought between the Nomendrie and Dohkan.
-3820 G.R. – Creation of the Hashkani Orcs. With the war going poorly on Alarus, some Wrathwyrm dragons returned to the southern peninsula of Ularin and began to manipulate the otherwise peaceful orc tribes. Much like they did with the Dohkan, the dragons manipulated and intermixed their essence into the orcish bloodlines, granting some Orcs limited sorcery. The dragons slowly created the quick-breeding Hashkani orc ancestry with a war and conquest-centered culture.
-3750 G.R. – Grund-Kalavar (the Hammer Confederacy) was formed by the united Dwarven clans of Mirbonland to protect themselves from future invaders and ensure the conquest of needed resources. The Confederacy creates a trade network with the burgeoning Noradrie human clans.
-3725 G.R. – The Dwarven-Elven Wars Began. The expanding Hammer Confederacy encroached on Elven territories, as they thirst for wood and charcoal to power their forges. This resource conflict quickly escalates into warfare between the two civilizations.
-3725 G.R. – Human Expansion. Four human cultures dominated Ularin during this period: The Noradrie dominated the northern reaches of the cold coasts. Guided by the elves, the Amarie expanded into the valleys and riverways where the Astraervis Empire once thrived. They covered the fertile lands in pastoral and agricultural villages. The Toldrie expanded into the southern forest-shrouded hills with isolated villages. The Seldrie humans of the southern coasts began to take to the sea and expanded onto many islands of the Selicean Sea. They often fought and intermixed with the expanding Xayadrie human clans, who had already migrated to these islands.
Human clans were recruited by both the Elves and the Dwarves during the ongoing conflict, with the Noradrie largely recruited by the Dwarves, and the Amarie recruited by the Elves.
-3713 G.R. – The Nomenir defeated the final Dahkhanic army at the Battle of Perdo-Magnus. The Dohkan were forced from Alarus, back to the wastelands of Nastus.
-3700 G.R. – The First Dynasty of the Arathkelsaran Empire began on southern Ularin and expanded along the Typhen River from the coast to the mountains. Those who rebelled against this Empire would flee to the west, over the mountains, and become the semi-nomadic Azandrie clans.
-3685 G.R. – Republic of Nomenia Founded. High King Pelgarus Nomen, great-grandson of Fortis Nomen, stepped down as monarch and converted the Nomen Kingdom into the Republic of Nomenia, controlled by regional senators. The republic prospered for many centuries as the Nomendrie continued to develop their technology and magical skills.
-3561 G.R. – The First Orc Horde. The first recorded orc horde, led by the First Warlord, Hashkan, marched northward from the southern swamps. The vast war-machine featured dragons and goblins slaves. It decimated the Thunmar (wood elf) civilization on the southeastern side of the mountains and scattered the Toldrie and Amarie human clans as it marched northward.
-3560 G.R. – Elven-Dwarven Wars End. The Treaty of Arrow and Axe (the Kalgra Hanu-Gar) was signed, putting an end to the conflict. The Dwarves and Elves created an unlikely alliance against the horde of orcs and eventually decimated the orc army. The surviving orcs scattered throughout the eastern coasts into separate and competing tribes. The majority of these orc tribes were continuously pushed northward. This put them in constant warfare with the Noradrie clans, who eventually pushed the orcs into the northern rocky badlands of Hashan.
Banishment of the Shadmar and Grimdzi. A conspiracy between the last of the Shadmar Elves of Valraen and the Dogarun clan of Dwarves tried to prevent the peace treaty. Led by a Shadmar noblewoman, Lady Ulma Ralmena, the Shadmar people consorted with demons of the demonic plane of Xelenvar. Using dark magic, the conspirators successfully assassinated the Elven Emperor of Enaarvis and the Dwarven High Magistrate of Kalavar. However, this did not end the treaty. Elves and the Dwarves instead worked together to expose the conspiracy and powerful Sulmar magic was used to forever banish the Shadmar Elves and the Dolgarun Dwarves into the Deep Underground. The banished Dwarves became known as the Grimdzi (dark Dwarves). The banished began to fight among themselves for limited resources, separating further into many disparate tribes and societies in the endless and lightless caverns beneath the earth.
-3550 G.R. – The first ancient tombs and pyramids are built in the lands along the Typhen River on Ularin to commemorate the pharaohs of the Second Dynasty.
-3535 G.R. – The Fading of the Elves and Dwarves. The Elven and Dwarven civilizations began to shrink over the centuries and humans began to completely overtake the eastern coasts, out-breeding their longer-lived predecessors. Many human clans dominated one area or another along the east and the south for various periods of times, but no lasting civilizations emerged during this time. It was a time of city-states, clans, and small domains.
-3300 G.R. – The Third Dynasty of the Arathkelsara Empire expanded north to the Demater River, enslaving the first of the Gnoll and Goblinoid tribes.
-3220 G.R. – The Arathian city of Tethis is founded on the site of modern Korenhold.
-3185 G.R. – The Arathkelsaran Empire continued their eastward expansion, displacing the gnolls and goblinoids. The gnolls separated into two main tribes, those that stayed were enslaved by the Arathians, while those that fled eastward fought against the Seldrie tribes and remnants of the Serpentfolk tribes in the southern jungles. The Goblinoids were scattered throughout Ularin, but many fled north into the Golbez mountains.
-3025 G.R. – Numerous Havashi (halfling) clans arrived and began to settle in the lands of Loyolla and Kalrua, avoiding the existing Toldan humans of the region.
-2935 G.R.– Xayan Expansion. The Xaya civilization of the Xayadrie humans conquered most of the Selicean islands and reach the southern coasts of Ularin. They had spread northward into the Firemyst jungles of the southern peninsula. The Xaya civilization remained in constant war with the Serpentfolk civilizations that inhabited the area.
-2900 G.R. – The Xaya civilization expands aggressively through the Selicean islands and Tabanya. A war ensued with the Seldrie tribes and most of the Seldrie are killed and driven out of the islands.
-2800 G.R. – Flight of the Khani. The Khani (seeker) Dwarves begin to leave Kalavar. This sect of Dwarves doubt that Kalavar is the prophesized Mirbonland and that the Promised Land of Stars still awaits them out in the wider world. Over the centuries, many small groups and disparate sects of Khani Dwarves began to establish colonies and outposts throughout the continent of Ularin.
-2460 G.R. – Korrat the Lawbringer is believed to have appeared on Montsiris and given his disciples the Scrolls of the Divine Laws to the Arathians living near Montsiris. A new religion was formed that challenged the rule of the divine pharaoh.
-2063 G.R. – Kingdom of Amaria Founded. The prosperous human civilization is formed in the Astonian valleys as trade prospers between humans, elves, and dwarves.
-2000 G.R. – The Noradrie human clans of the northlands continue to fight among themselves, with no prominent civilizations taking hold. They remain in constant battle with the orcs, goblins, giants, and Dyrferd tribes.
-1982 G.R. – The Days of Darkness. The Day of Starfall befell Alarus when a huge crystalline shard of Nembral had crashed upon the continent, destroying Numenurbis and much of the Nomenir civilization. In the wake of the catastrophe, another army of Dohkan forces marched into Alarus to eradicate the Nomenir once and for all.
Following the prophecy of the Draconia Augorium, some Nomenir refugees took to the sea and fled their devastated homeland across the great Erean Ocean towards Ularin. It is unknown how they were able to make this journey, or why the ocean god, Erean, did not stop them.
The prophetic Cult of Siris in Arathkelsara saw the “skyfire” and predicted the arrival of the “dragon men”.
Clouds of ashes blotted out the sun for a few years, causing a volcanic winter across the world. Cold temperatures and poor harvests caused much of the world population to shrink during this time.
-1981 G.R. – Hundreds of Nomenir refugees arrived in the Golden Bay on Ularin, arriving on large ships never-before-seen by the people Ularin. The Nomenir hero Quinius Mentus secured safety for the new refugees from the skeptical Amarie people by defeating a local red dragon tyrant that had been plaguing them. King Graith Brentellin of Amaria granted the refugees the lands in the contested northern portion of his kingdom, which pitted the refugees against the Noradrie clans in the area.
The Nomenir brought the first horses and ponies, to the new continent, which soon had spread throughout the northern and southern plains. Prior to their arrival, eastern people had relied on cattle and donkeys (or camels in Arathkelsara, or alpacas on the Xelhasa peninsula) as working animals. Horses greatly expanded trade networks along the eastern coasts. The Noradrie also expanded after acquiring these beasts, allowing individual clans to defend much larger territories from their enemies. The rolling hills of the Noradrie home country were a perfect habitat for these creatures.
.
The Nomen Renaissance, 2nd Age
-1935 G.R. – Aureusurbis (City of Gold or Goldwall) is founded on the Golden Bay by the long-lived Nomenir refugees. The city-state is formed as the republic of Auremarvum and grants access to all ancestries and tribes for free trade. The republic expanded quickly, using the Nomendrie’s knowledge and technology to provide a high quality of life for its citizens. Additionally, their highly organized militaries were adept at defeating the Noradrie clans, pushing the Noradrie further northward.
-1815 G.R. – An alliance between the Amarie and Nomendrie was formed as the outlying Noradrie and Toldrie clans threatened both people. This connection grew over the years as the Amarie came to learn the technology and magic of the Nomendrie. Many relationships developed between the nobles of the Amarie and the remaining Nomendrie, forming a longer life-expectancy among the nobility of these middle kingdoms.
-1800 G.R. – The Xaya civilization collapsed throughout the southern coasts and Selicean islands due to logistic issues and a prolonged war with the Serpentfolk. The remaining Xayadrie people eventually intermarried with the Seldrie people to become the modern Selicean human tribes.
-1785 G.R. – The Nomen Republic Founded. Amaria and Auremarvum unite officially to become one sovereignty. The bloodlines of the original Nomendrie had completely dwindled into the ruling class of the republic, giving these leaders much longer lives, darker skin tones, and the characteristic silver ring around their irises. Peaceful times followed as trade flourished with the Elves, Dwarves, and other human city-states in the region.
-1465 G.R. – The Kingdom of Taliana Founded. King Ellin Bassaria takes the throne of the united Seldrie clans in the lands of Migara. Trade flourishes and the Inner Sea largely becomes the dominion of the Taliana fleets. The expanding Seldrie conquer and intermingle much with the remaining and scattered Xaya clans, forming a mixture of the cultures, becoming the modern Selicean tribes.
-1385 G.R.– The Noman Republic was beset by constant raids from the north by the Noradrie clans and from the south by the Toldrie clans. Additionally, small Orc hordes had become more common. Many cities on the edges of the republic were razed and destroyed. The cohesion of the Republic seemed to be falling apart as regional senators fought for control of the aging civilization.
-1375 G.R. – The Nomen Empire. After a successful military campaign against the northern Noradrie, the charismatic General Thalius Auremtus secured control of the republic. He restructured the republic into the Nomen Empire, becoming the first Nomen Emperor. He then used the might of the military to secure the borders and begin territorial expansion against the neighboring kingdoms.
-1360 G.R. – The Nomen Empire successfully pushed the Noradrie into the lands north of the Dulerrun River. The Nomens established the first settlements on Cancer Island. The town and fortress of Auroravotum (Dawnvow) is founded on the islands where the Thalmira Channel and Dulerrun River meet.
-1340 G.R. – The Nomen Empire expanded southward into the Orlean plains, pushing the Toldrie people southward beyond the Amadea River. The new lands became the bread-basket of the Empire, allowing for more military recruitment and further expansion.
-1280 G.R. – The Noman Empire expanded again southward into the Kalruan plains, this time many Toldrie clans were absorbed into the growing empire, however, many clans also fled into the Kolomna Hills. These clans would often face off against the remaining Aulathunmar (wild elves) that dwelt there.
-1220 G.R. – The Noman Empire tried to expand deeper into the forests and jungles of the south, but were then caught in a fierce three-pronged war against the remaining Serpentfolk in the jungles, the Gnolls of the mountainous forests, and the Orcs in the swamps and marshes. Eventually these groups are defeated and a heavily fortified fortress is built in the Gap to protect the trade road.
-1215 G.R. – The Noman town of Salrinus is founded in the wide fertile valleys beyond the Gap.
-1200 G.R. – Kingdom of Taliana Becomes Vassal to the Empire. The Noman Empire expands along the southern coast. The Seldrie people of Taliana living there quickly incorporate into the growing empire with only a few skirmishes. The Nomans help the Seldrie build a long trade road through the southern lands of Migara, where many new cities are established and expanded on the southern coasts as trade flourishes within the Empire.
-1200 G.R. – The Noradrie of the northern coast begin to develop their naval raiding forces and continuously raid the Noman towns and cities along the eastern coasts, as far south as Kalrua. Fear of the Noradrie expanded throughout the eastern coasts and the Noradrie gain a reputation as Vikings (raiders and pillagers).
-1100 G.R. – The Magna Pontis Bridge Built. The Noman Empire expanded to the wide Myrillian River to the west where it contacted the Arathkelsaran Empire for the first time. Trade agreements were established and Nomen roads were built to connect the two civilizations. A great stone bridge (the Magna Pontis) was built over the Myrillian River, stretching miles across the flowing waters. There is much trade (over land and sea) that enhanced life within both empires.
-1080 G.R. – A large iconic stone statue of Korrat the Lawbringer was erected on top of Montsiris to commemorate the deity. The place soon became a destination for pilgrims as knowledge and worship of the Arathian deities spread throughout the Nomen Empire. Many of the modern pantheons find their roots during this period as the Nomen dragon-gods, traditional (pre-Nomen) eastern pantheons, and Arathian pantheons all begin to merge and evolve together.
-1050 G.R. – War broke out between the Arathkelsarian and Nomen Empire as the Fourth Arathkelsarian Dynasty took over. The new Arathian pharoah had a discriminatory of non-Arathians. They tried to gather and kidnap the incoming eastern settlers as slaves. Meanwhile, the people of the Nomen Empire coveted the rich and fertile lands and mining resources in the region of Korenell.
-980 G.R. – Groups of Khani Dwarves ventured into the Korenell region from Kalavar. They begin to establish colonies in the region’s mountains.
-950 G.R. – The War of the Empires continued, making much of Korenell too dangerous for settlement by either side. Both sides continued to send armies of soldiers into the lands.
-850 G.R. – The Nomen Empire spends many resources on expanding their armies and navies. They conquered most of Korenell and pushed the Arathkelsarian Empire past the River Demater to the southwest. The Nomen armies captured and razed the city of Tethis (modern Korenhold). The city is renamed Augustandria after the conquering general, Galerius Augustandrius. The new city consisted only of the modern old-city island (which still bears the name Augustandria today), as it was surrounded by the razed and destroyed ruins of the old Arathkelsarian city.
-820 G.R. – Dwarves established the mountain settlement of Brong-Zhong (Stone-Song, eventually just referred to as Brong) in the iron-rich hills of the Brongus Cliffs.
-800 G.R. – The orc tribes of Hashan sent a mighty horde of orcs, goblins, and giants into the Noradrie lands. The Northern Orc Wars lasted for many decades. The Noradrie people were greatly weakened, but eventually managed to push the orcs out of their lands again.
-790 G.R. – Tensions throughout the Nomen Empire weakened its logistics networks and organization of its provinces. Signs of the Empire’s decay began to show. Meanwhile the Nomen navy had expanded greatly and was finally able to equally challenge the Arathkelsarian fleets on the Inner Sea.
-790 G.R. – The Toldan Rebellion began in the Strass region (modern Kalrua) of the empire. The Nomen Empire was collapsing from pressures on all sides, within and without. From the Noradrie in the north, who made frequent raids on the northern border and eastern coasts; to the rebellious Toldrie in the south who refused to work, which limited food supplies to the Noman armies; to economic problems caused by decreased road security as bandits and rebels grew in each region; to similar problems on the trade networks of the Inner Sea caused from Selicean pirates; to finally from a growing decadency in the ruling aristocracy as the blood of the Nomenir had vanished. Additionally, the war with the Arathkelsaran Empire continued in what is now Korenell and upon the Inner Sea.
-685 G.R. – Noman Capital Moved to Ardolia. Emperor Cassintius Verentus II plans and builds the city of Ardolia in the Astonia region and moves the capital of the empire to the new city. The Palace of the Emperor is built on the highest hill. Many noble families move to Ardolia, creating a split in power between the Astonian aristocracy and the Goldwall aristocracy.
-650 G.R. – Northern Climate Cooled. A changing climate caused the northern lands to become increasingly colder. This also reduces the influence of the horse-dependent Noradrie in the Krungar area. The Nupik tribes (humans of polar origin with Dyrferd descendancy) also began to arrive in the area, as they followed their prey southward with the colder climate. The northern Dyrferd tribes began to expand southeward and took over many of the lands abandoned by the Noradrie. The Orcs and Jotuns also begin to expand in the Noradrie’s absence.
-585 G.R.– Confederate City-states of Eshlien Founded. The Nomen province of Eshlinius peaceably secedes from the Empire and forms their own government. The region, located between the lands of the Amarie and the Elven nation of Enaarvis, was composed of mostly Eshmar (half-elves). They diplomatically coerced their right to self-governance while the Empire was weak with the help of their Elven alliance. The essential trade networks through Eshlien allowed it to maintain good relations with the Empire despite their secession.
-583 G.R. – The Arathkelsaran Empire found themselves beset by war with the Goblinoids of the Kelsus Mountains. This gave the Noman Empire an opportunity to recede from the war with Arathkelsara.
-523 G.R. – The Noman Empire Divided. With the death of Emperor Dirontus Verentus, there was no clear heir to the throne. Numerous nobles and factions vied for power. The southern regions of the Noman Empire (what is now Korenell, Migara, Loyolla, and Kalrua) separated from the Empire, as regional generals, provincial governors, and militaristic aristocrats claim dominion over smaller regions and provinces. War breaks out between these leaders and factions, dissolving any influence and control of the true Noman Empire in this region. The decadent nobles of the east can do little to maintain the cohesion of the empire. The remaining Noman Empire in the east is split into the Northern Empire (reduced to what is now Hopesdawn and Angmar regions) and the Southern Empire (what is now Astonia and Verland regions).
The small province of Augustus in Korenell falls under the leadership of Governor Lucceius Fraucus. The region has a northern border of the Solenmars, western border of the Demater River, and eastern border of the Myrillian River.
-513 G.R. – The Aelgardian Empire Founded. The Noradrie Jarl, Rohard Hethroth, united the many scattered Noradrie clans into the Aelgardian Empire. Rohard, the new Storr-Konungr [Great-King] assembled a mighty army of Ridders [horse-riders, knights]. The people of Aelgard greatly wished to expand southward as the changing climate mades their homeland less habitable.
-510 G.R. – The Ridders of Aelgard charged into the northern Nomen Empire pushing out the Nomen people down to the Dulerrun River. The Aelgardian Empire expanded through all of Angmar and surrounded and lay siege to the city of Goldwall. The fortress of Auroravotum is seized by the Noradrie.
-508 G.R. – Aelgardian Empire Captures Goldwall. The city was sacked and looted by the Ridders of Aelgard, who occupied the city for many years. The Aelgardian Empire continued to hold the lands of Angmar as well, subjugating the Amarie-Nomen people there. Overtime, the Angmarian culture grew to resemble a mixed combination of both Noradrie and Amarie-Nomen cultures.
-500 G.R. – The Arathkelsarian Empire Divided. The weakened Arathkelsarian Empire fell into years of contention as the empire was split between the upper (western) and lower (eastern) empires. The war over the Augustus province of Korenell fell apart as the two Arathian empires waged war against each other.
-499 G.R. – Goldwall Retaken. The Nomen forces were able to secure their northern border at Goldwall, retaking the city from the Aelgardians. But the sacking of the grand city greatly reduced the Empire’s remaining cohesion.
-450 G.R. – The Nomen Empire recaptured the territory of Angmar, defeating the Noradrie lords that ruled over the people there. The hybrid Nomen/Noradrie culture of Angmar reluctantly rejoined the diminishing Empire, but became a rebellious and problematic region.
-430 G.R. – The Aelgardian Empire Dissolved. The death of Roharrin Hethroth (Rohard’s grandson) led to conflict between the Clan-King’s, or Jarls, of the Noradrie. Their lands had been split into separate city-states, each controlled by a powerful Jarl. Each Jarl family was descended from the Ridder-Captains who rode with Rohard Hethroth. For many years, the Jarls battled against each other as each tried to reform the Aelgardian Empire under their leadership.
-400 G.R. – The Noman Empire Dissolved. Civilization and trade breaks down as regional leaders vie for power and the Empire collapses into many disparate kingdoms, factions, and small dictatorships. The metropolis of Goldwall maintains its democracy, but only controls the lands of what is now Angmar and Hopesdawn.
-310 G.R. – Augustus Collapses. The province of Augustus in modern Korenell collapsed from the First Great Goblin War. The Goblinoids from the Golbez Mountains in the north sent a great horde and war machine that descended from the mountains upon the men of the region. They razed and destroyed the Magna Pontis, the bridge that crossed with miles-wide Myrillian River, cutting off the province from the east. The expanded city of Augustandria was razed, but the old city on the island remained secure, holding off the siege. The population of men from the old empire diminished greatly and trade between the province and the rest of the old empire ceased.
-300 G.R. – The eastern coasts continued to descend into lawlessness and danger as the governments continued to fall apart. Warlords and petty-kings take control of various regions, fighting for power.
-200 G.R. – The Lower Empire of Arathkelsara held back another great goblin horde from the Kelsus Mountains and maintained its border at the Demater River. The holy town of Korratus grew beneath Montsiris as the religions of Korrat (Korrond) and Sol (Solarus) continued to grow in Arathkelsarian culture.
-100 G.R. – As Noradrie invaders continued to raid the coastal lands, the provinces of Angmar declined into a handful of warring city-states. Goldwall loses control of these regions, leaving the city itself as the last remnant of the once great Nomen Empire.
.
The Rise of Kingdoms, 3rd Age
1 G.R. – The Night of the People’s Rebellion. The commonfolk of Goldwall rose up against the decadent aristocracy and the so-called emperor of Goldwall, killing many and driving most nobles out of the city. The city once again became a democratic government as the Republic of Goldwall. A resurgence of old and new culture emerged within the metropolis, as word of the People’s Rebellion spread far and wide. Many people from across Ularin came to the city looking to start a new life that was free from kings and warlords.
Elsewhere, many small feudal kingdoms controlled the eastern coasts, occasionally changing hands in small wars. Regional leaders were in a constant struggle for power. Trade outside of Goldwall had diminished greatly.
8 G.R. – *The free city of Kulderon was founded in the caldera of a dormant volcano in the southern reaches of the Dragon Peaks. It was founded mostly by nobles who had fled from Goldwall.
24 G.R. – The First Crusades. Many knightly orders of the eastern coast banded together and headed to the lost province of Augustus to reclaim the Holy Land. The land between the Sanctus Mountains and the coast are considered the Holy Land for many of the religions that originated in Arathkelsara (Korrond, Solarus, Demater). The crusade proved to be a failure, however, as Goblins and Gnolls controlled much of the region, and the Arathians still held the small city of Korratus below Montsiris. The crusaders found that the city of Augustandria has barely survived in the dangerous lands. They found little more than a small village of people living among the larger ruins of the old city.
58 G.R. – The Second Crusades. The holy crusaders successfully gathered and settled in Augustandria. They again failed to take over the Holy Land, but they began to reestablish trade with the city-states of Migara and beyond, building the old city into a gathering of religious pilgrims and crusaders.
70 G.R. – The Goblinoids were driven from the Korenell region as far north as the Solenmars. The town of Sonvera was established to foster trade along the old Nomen highway. The new outpost established a ferry service that became vital for crossing the wide Myrillian River.
75 G.R. – Dwarves expanded from Brong, founding numerous forts and settlements in the mountains of the Korenell region. They fought much with the goblins of the mountains.
95 G.R. – The Lower Kingdom of Arathkelsara conquered the Upper Kingdom and becomes the Fifth Dynasty of the Empire of Arathkelsara. The new empire began to pay attention to its eastern borders again.
110 G.R. – The Third Crusades. The crusaders united and pushed west from Augustandria along the Demeter River. The fortress of Athune was established along the Demeter River and the crusaders clear the region to the Kelsus Ridge and Arthurian Woods.
122 G.R. – The Fourth Crusade, Kingdom of Korenell Founded. Draken Pendragon, Prince of Gerdall (modern Loyolla) led the Fourth Crusade against the Empire of Arathkelsara and successfully captured the city of Korratus, driving the Arathians out and claiming the city for the new Holy Kingdom of Korenell, beholden to their deity Korrond (Korrat).
123 G.R. – Year of the Trinity. The Empire of Arathkelsara sent a sizable army to reclaim Korratus. King Draken Pendragon was killed in the following siege. His squire, Aedin of Nombria, led the counterattack but was forced to make a final stand on the hill of Montsiris, directly below the ancient statue of Korrat the Lawbringer. Aedin was captured by the Arathkelsarian soldiers. Traditionally, the Arathkelsarian soldiers would crucify their enemy leaders and enslave the rest. However, since there were no trees nearby on the rocky hills, the pharaoh’s soldiers, who had no respect for Korrat, tied Aedin to the outstretched arms of the statue of Korrat the Lawbringer. They had lightly cut his wrists and watched him bleed to death on high as they forced his captured followers to watch, as was the standard practice. Everyone present then saw a beam of light shine down through the overcast sky, shining upon the dying Aedin. With his dying breath he gave the Proclamation of the Trinity, which became the basis of a new religion.
The Arathkelsarian soldiers saw this as a prophecy of Korrat denouncing Thorus and their pharaoh. They pulled the dead Aedin down from the statue (though his blood marks still stain it today). The war stopped in the city of Korratus as both sides tried to make sense of the supposed divine proclamation. The reinforcements from Korenell stayed outside the city walls and hostilities ceased for a few years.
123 G.R. – The Demon-Wars. Many Shadmar return to the surface of the Aegis Forest, finding the ancient spell banishing them had expired. Shadmar sorcerers created a permanent portal to the demonic plane of Xelenvar, somehow bypassing the protections of Pelaria. A demonic army arrived on Enelis and marched into Enaarvis. The Enaarvis capital, Elienspar, was besieged. The demons were eventually defeated by the Elves, their Dwarven allies, and the remaining Shadmar that had renounced their sorcerous leaders. A band of heroes led by Prince Halsuel Liamaer closed the gate to the plane of Xellenthor and ended the demon-wars. The remaining Shadmar were welcomed into the new Kingdom of Four Crowns ruled by the new Queen Nemarian. The Shadmar retook their ancient fortress of Valraen and became a strategic partner to the new kingdom. Much of the elven forests were burned and destroyed in the war with the demonic armies, taking many centuries to recover. The aftermath of the war caused the previously insular Elven people to greatly expand their trade and contact with the outside world. More Elves (particularly Ethmar) were soon found travelling throughout the lands of Ularin, sharing their culture and knowledge with humans for the first time in many centuries.
126 G.R.– Kingdom of Korenell Reformed. A nobleman of Korenell and former crusader, Philigard of House Kassintius, who once hailed from the Astonia region, had taken command of the Korenell crusaders. He used the sacrifice of Aedin to leverage himself as ruler and King of Korenell in Pendragon’s place. Months later he organized and signed a peace treaty with Pharaoh Onnos Merira II of Arathkelsara to cease hostilities. The city of Korratus and lands west of the Demater River were returned to the Arathkelsarians, but the people of Korenell and the east were given safe pilgrimage rights to the city of Korratus and the surrounding Holy Lands.
129 G.R.– The city of Augustandria is renamed Korenhold in honor of Korrond and a great reclamation project takes place in the city ruins. The new city becomes the capital of Korenell. Construction begins on Augustus Palace, a grand castle built on the top of the old Arathkelsarian pyramid.
130 G.R. – The Last War. The armies of the Dohkan appeared on the shores of Verland and spread across the eastern coasts creating devastation in their wake. The Dohkan are no match for the disparate city-states and kingdoms along the eastern coasts. Trade with Korenell from the east ceases. Many of the Korenellian knightly orders head to the east to assist with the war efforts against the Dohkan.
133 G.R. – The Noradrie Unite. The war effort went poorly for the men of the eastern coasts. The many small kingdoms eventually banded together to drive the Dohkan northward, but are unable to keep the enemy from overtaking them. The resistance armies began to gather at Goldwall to meet the invasion.
In the north, the Noradrie warrior, Bryman Hethroth, descendant of Rohard Hethroth, defeated a powerful white dragon in the mountain now known as Hethroth Hond and gathered the Noradrie clans under a single crown again. He formed a powerful united army to meet the invasion force.
134 G.R. – The Great Cataclysm. The City of Goldwall was destroyed in an instant by a Dohkan sorcerer who utilized a large crystalline shard of Nembral. The armies of men were vaporized within the city. The armies of Astonia, last to arrive, found the devastation and regrouped to the north at the town and fortress of Hopekeep (formerly Auroravotum). The Dohkan sent all their forces to besiege the small fortress in a siege that lasted many weeks. An army of Elves and Dwarves then charged in from the south as the men of the fortress made one last charge to the overwhelming enemy. It was then that Bryman Hethroth, riding a white dragon, and leading the many united clans of the Noradrie, charged into the Dohkan armies breaking the siege and ending the war.
The remaining Dohkan are hunted down and scattered. Most of them are pushed into the Orc lands of Hashan. Over time, the Dohkan dominated and inter-breed with the northern gray Orcs, gaining some dominance over the Orc clans from the dragons. They eventually built the city of Gruum in the Northrim mountains as the last bastion of Dohkan war-culture on Ularin.
As the news of Goldwall travelled, fear of magic became especially pervasive throughout the eastern coasts, causing those who practiced the magical art to become outcasts and any magical institutions were quickly abandoned or destroyed by public fear and outrage.
135 G.R. – Hopesdawn Founded. The city of Hopesdawn is founded around the fortress-town of Hopekeep (formerly Auroravotum) to house the many refugees left in the wake of the war. As a dedication to Goldwall, the refugees forged a new democracy in the former Nomen town. The united people of Hopesdawn worked in cooperation to build a new society, that celebrated their cultural differences.
136 G.R.– Trade returned to Korenell with the eastern coasts and the new city of Hopesdawn.
136 G.R. – The War of the Tattered Banners Begins. A great war between regional leaders, mercenary companies, and orders of knights begins in the regions of Verland and Kalrua. This century-long conflict would leave the south in a constant state of war and strife.
137 G.R. – Astonia Imperium Founded. Astonia is reunited by the ancient noble house of Alanandriara who united the people of the region in the Last War. The old Nomen province system was restored, creating a class of powerful senators who guided the new emperor.
138 G.R.– *A dwarven cult dedicated to Nuegar was exposed in Brong and pushed out. Rumors suggested the cultists established a colony in the Golbez Mountains.
145 G.R. – Kingdom of Aelgard Founded. The clan-kings, called Jarls, of the Noradrie clans agree to swear fealty to the Hethroth family. Herevard Hethroth becomes the first High-King of the united kingdom. Some of the northern clans, however, had a dim view of this new kingdom and its diplomacy with the south. They continued to break the new laws and raid along the coasts.
148 G.R.– The Church of the Trinity Founded. The Proclamation of the Trinity had spread throughout Korenell and an official church was founded. Many Korenellians viewed Aedin as a prophet for the deity known as Trinity the Three-Formed God, a philosophical merging of Korrond, Solarus, and Demater. The Arathians, however, viewed Aedin as an unwilling prophet and vessel of Korrat. The religious leaders of the worshipers of Korrat prophesized the coming of Korrat’s true prophet.
152 G.R. – The Cult of Bael Founded. A group of devil-worshiping cultists made their first communion with the devil-lord Bael. This new religion grew quickly in the Kalruan city of Dracea, as the cultists promised order and prosperity during a time of disease and economic suffering.
200 G.R. – Northern Climates Warm. The colder climate in the northern region began to fade and the lands of Aelgard and Krungar warmed again. The northern lands began to be settled again by the Noradrie, fighting against the existing Orcs, Goblins, Jotuns, and Dyrferd tribes. There were many Noradrie who wished to return to the ‘Old Ways’ and forgo the trade and new cultural exchange with the south, these clans head to the northern lands.
268 G.R. – The Noble Kingdom of Verland Founded. Veron Urgomen of the Order of the White Mare defeated his final foe, Baron Halan Daucourt of the Order of the Black Dragon’s Claw. Many factions and regional lords then swore fealty to Urgomen and he became the first king of the new kingdom of Verland. Verland had many knightly orders and these orders continued to be held in high regard, forming a very chivalrous, structured society based on feudalism and hierarchical fealty.
295 G.R.– The prophet Methusuphis began to preach at Montsiris the new teachings of Korrat. Worship of the deity flourished throughout the Arathkelsarian Empire.
314 G.R.– Year of Korrat’s True Prophet. The prophet Methusuphis was crucified in the town square of Korratus by soldiers of the Pharaoh, who felt the new teachings of Korrat challenged the lawful hierarchy of Thorus and his chosen pharaohs. The martyrdom of Methusuphis caused many to proclaim him as Korrat’s true prophet. An organization called The Keepers of the Scrolls was formed to interpret and disseminate the prophet’s writings and teachings.
322 G.R. – Krungar Secedes from Aelgard. Civil war broke out in Aelgard as new and old cultures clashed. The Clan-Kings of Krungar successfully seceded from Aelgard, returning to their traditional warrior culture in the far north.
335 G.R. – The Blades of Law, an Arathian religious and military organization devoted to the prophet Methusuphis, was formed in Korratus. They began gaining support in the city to kick out the Korenellian pilgrims and to claim the Holy Land for their own. Racism against Easterners increased greatly in the city.
335 G.R. – Vestrdyrr Founded. The independent city was founded on the shores of the North Sea by explorers and traders from Goldwall. While it served as a trading post and gateway to the northwest, the growing city quickly became a place known for lawlessness and villainy, with powerful crime syndicates controlling trade.
348 G.R. – Duchies of Eshlien Founded. The region of Eshlien was controlled by an alliance of self-proclaimed Dukes belonging to powerful mercantile houses. The new nation becomes a mercantile oligarchy devoted to the Golden Principles of Three, a philosophy placing the acquisition of wealth above all else.
356 G.R. – The growing Noradrie clans of Krungar send numerous raiders on longboats to the south. Much of Angmar is razed and raided by these rogue Noradrie clans, bringing the fears of Vikings back to the minds of coastal dwellers.
362 G.R. – The Azahk-Khanate formed among the semi-nomadic Azendrie clans. A great host of mounted archers raided Arathkelsara from the north and west. The war nearly destroyed the empire, but they were able to repel the invaders. The Arathkelsaran Empire greatly expanded its military in the aftermath of the war.
372 G.R. – The Sea Principalities of Angmar Founded. The scattered city-states of Angmar united to protect their domains from the invading Vikings from the sea and the monsters from the ruins of Goldwall. They were devoted to coastal life and maintaining their fisheries and trade upon the sea. Despite their joint agreement against outside forces, they often fought among themselves with skirmishes and trading wars rampant on the high seas.
378 G.R. – United Confederation of Kalruan Baronies Founded. The Baronies of Kalrua united under a loose confederacy where each regional baron held control over their individual province, but national matters were decided by a gathering of the barons of each region. Serfdom and brutal feudalism were common in this region, as most Barons were militant and eager for more territory and power. Intrigue and dark politics were rampant in a shadow-war between the Barons.
387 G.R. – A great horde of goblins came down from the Golbez Mountains through the Righteous Hills into Korenell. The Second Great Goblin War was fought with Korenell for seven years. The humans were eventually victorious, but farms and mines are destroyed, and trade is greatly disrupted for a long while.
388 G.R. – The Order of the High Templars of the Trinity were formed as a military extension of the Trinity church to help in the goblin wars, seeing it as their religious duty to protect the people of Korenell. They pushed northward, building forts and establishing more reliable patrols to protect people from the Goblinoids.
396 G.R. – Talax the Crimson Terror united most of the orc clans of Hashan and overtook the dwindling Dohkan city of Gruum, where the last descendants of the Dohkan remained. She revived the city and began the creation of a great war-machine.
402 G.R. – The Verdant Kingdom of Loyolla Founded. As attacks from the gnolls of Gogrin increased and the Barons of Karlua attempted to expand to their south, the Pendragon family of Gerdall united the region of Loyolla under a decentralized kingdom for mutual security. The many regions and communities contribute representatives to the Commons Council who share power with their monarchy. The people of Loyolla greatly valued their liberty and freedom, and their loosely-organized society allowed much autonomy and self-determination.
424 G.R. – The Three Kingdoms of Migara united in a loose confederacy, while competing among themselves heavily for trade and naval dominance of the Inner Sea.
425 G.R. – The Inner Sea became filled with trade vessels, privateers, and pirates as Migara and Korenell competed for trade deals across the Inner Sea. The Seaskar Islands and Arawen swamps became infamous for pirates waiting to attack unsuspecting merchant vessels.
452 G.R. – The Great Orc Horde. Another great orc horde descended from Hashan, led by the red dragon, Talax the Crimson Terror, who managed to unite the disparate orc clans. They destroyed and slaughtered much of eastern Krungar and Aelgard. The war lasted many years. An alliance of Dwarves, Aelgardians, and Krungi clans finally destroyed the horde, pushing the orcs back into Hashan. It took many years for these regions to recover. Talax, worshipped by the orcs under her command, was believed to have gone into a deep slumber within the orcish city of Gruum, waiting until the clans of the orcs recovered for the next horde.
460 G.R. – The Alliance was formed, consisting of soldiers from Kalavar, Aelgard, and Krungar to hold and defend the north and western border forever from orcs and giants.
530 G.R.– The city of Namport is founded in Korenell on the northern border to bring raw resources from the forests down to the trade city of Sonvera along the Myrillian River.
541 G.R.– *The adventurer-soldier Eldor Kassen establishes a small wooden fort on the Feyrun River. The fort grows into a small logging town.
567 G.R. – The Blades of Law violently pushed out non-arathians from Korratus and proclaimed command over the holy city. The refugees gathered around the fortress of Arthune, forming a makeshift town outside its walls.
584 G.R. – The Fifth Crusade began to reclaim Korratus and the Holy Land for the Church of the Trinity. The crusaders charged into Korratus and were able to retake the city, pushing out many Arathians. The Blades of Law retreated and beseeched the Pharaoh of Arathkelsara for aid.
585 G.R. – The armies of the Arathkelsarian Empire sieged the city of Korratus. The siege lasted many years as both sides controlled the city at various times. Armies began to clash in the fields around the mountains.
587 G.R. – The fanatic knightly order called the High Templars of the Trinity took control of the fortress-town of Arthune, bringing strict discipline and order to the border town. The high walls of Arthune were built to protect the growing town from the Arathkelsarian armies and to serve as a strong border against any invading forces.
595 G.R. – The Massacre of Titus. The largest battle of the war was fought in the land between the Kelsus and Sanctus mountains. The armies of Korenell, led by the crusader Arunus Titus, were slaughtered by the Arathkelsarian in the biggest defeat in the war. The land between the mountains was filled with so many dead corpses that the area was henceforth referred to as the Fields of Blood.
598 G.R. – The fortress-town of Arthune was besieged by the Arathkelsarian armies. The people of the fortress outlasted the siege for ten years, using their inner-wall fields to keep their soldiers from starving. The Korenellian military was seen to fail the people of Arthune and the High Templars of the Trinity were praised for their defense of the fortress. The Arathkelsarian were forced to leave the fortress unconquered.
602 G.R. – The Arrival of Bael. The cultists of Bael claimed theocratic control over Kalrua after their devil-lord, Bael himself, crossed into Enelis, somehow bypassing Pelaria’s protections. Many of the Kalruan barons quickly and fearfully signed on to this growing religion. Many of them were tempted by the devil’s offer of power. But a few Barons still remained vigilant of the new “living-god” and his intentions. Many devils began to appear in Kalruan culture, as Bael brought many denizens from the Nine Hells with him to Enelis.
603 G.R. – The Year of the Peace. Pharaoh Onnos Mirira III of Arathkelsara and King Sventus Kassintius of Korenell reached a peace deal to end the war. The war had greatly reduced the trade routes into both their nations from the eastern coasts. Neither leader wanted to see the loss of wealth caused by the war. Both the Blades of Law of Korrat and the High Templars of the Trinity opposed the peace deal.
The city of Korratus was divided into three sections, one for the Arathians, one for the Korenellians and people of the east, and one section in between as a neutral trading zone. Walls were built between each section with guards watching the gates between them. Montsiris began to be guarded by both the Blades of Law and the High Templars of the Trinity as neither side trusted the other. To this day, three soldiers of both sides always stand guard near the statue of Korrat the Lawbringer on Montsiris. Armies of both sides guard their respective portion of the holy city.
610 G.R.– The war over the Holy Land had gone under cover as a war of intrigue, assassinations, and blackmail as both sides tried to control Korratus. Korratus became a juxtaposition of religious pilgrims seeking moral enlightenment and religious zealots who sought to control and tame the city for their own.
625 G.R. – The War of the Devils. The united Baronies of Kalrua declared war on the Kingdom of Verland, while simultaneously igniting a covert war with the Kingdom of Loyolla. Non-humans were given limited access to Kalrua and eventually had to wear a visible badge to indicate their lower social status under the new Hellish hierarchy of Bael. Autocracy and fascism dominated Kalruan life as the Cult of Bael began to control every aspect of Kalruan society.
628 G.R.– Many merchant guilds and criminal syndicates take control of the Neutral Quarter of Korratus. The section of the city became infamous as a black market, as the guilds and criminals created their own mercenary guards and factions to control the quarter.
642 G.R. – *In Kalrua, a group of heroes defeated the necromancer Baron of Rovania and discover that the he had created an army of undead for the war.
643 G.R. – *. An army of undead, Kalruan soldiers, and devils attacked the Loyollan city of Brindonford. The war waged for many years as the Kalruans took much territory in Verland and parts of eastern Loyolla. Brindonford was never overtaken, however, as the local militia managed to withhold the siege.
655 G.R. – The War of the Devils Ends. After many years of war and conflict in the east, a joint effort from Astonia, Verland, and Loyolla managed to get a majority of the Kalruan barons to sign a peace treaty, ending the war. Kalrua’s economy had greatly suffered under the war and was trying to rebuild itself, even forgoing the badge law in its port cities in an effort to bring more outside trade. Bael himself was never seen on the war front and many began to question the living-god’s existence. The Cult of Bael lost much influence over the barons, reducing the cult’s military dominion to the Barony of Dracea itself. However, Bael’s religious influence remained a pervasive part of Kalruan culture, particularly the Hellish hierarchical structure.
668 G.R. – *A group of heroes called the Eternal Embers were formed in the free city of Kulderon.
670 G.R.– A great sandstorm blew through the Kelsarian Deserts, unearthing numerous ancient ruins and pyramids from the old dynasties of Arathkelsara. The ruling pharaoh saw this as an opportunity to recover ancient relics and offered much wealth in exchange for any artifacts recovered. This event brought many eastern aristocrats to send teams of explorers to Arathkelsara to bring back riches and lost treasures.
670 G.R. – *The ruins of the lost, ancient Xaya city of Sava-Xi was discovered near the city-state of Viana in the Firemyst Jungles. Many nobles, societies, and profit-interested groups fought over the ancient Xayan artifacts that were recovered.
671 G.R. – *The free-city of Kulderon was nearly destroyed by a great magical explosion. The Eternal Embers were praised as heroes for stopping an influx of demodands from overrunning the city and stopping an evil cult from creating a permanent portal to the Tarterian Depths of Carceri, the demodand plane of eternal prisons.
676 G.R.– The Holy Kingdom of Korenell Becomes a True Theocracy. The young and spoiled King Umbrar Kassintius signed the Law of Faith in Governance, granting most civic power to The Church of the Trinity. The monarchy was reduced to a pampered figurehead. The church reforms into a three-branched organization. The new Ministry of the Faith was created to oversee the bureaucratic duties of running the kingdom. The Order of the High Templar overtakes the kingdom’s military organization. The Order of Saint Aedin oversees the compulsory religious teachings of the Trinity to the populace. Although most citizens were descendants of the crusaders and already followed the faith.
689 G.R. – Tensions between Korenell and the Empire of Arathkelsara grew as numerous eastern outsiders entered the Kelsarian deserts to explore and plunder the newly unearthed ancient Arathian ruins and pyramids. Goblins began to increase their presence and attacked the farmlands around the Golbez Mountains. Many felt a war with the Goblinoids of Dragmore was brewing.
689 G.R.– The Pharaoh of Arathkelsara ceased trading wealth for artifacts, finding many outsiders opting to illegally keep the ancient Arathian artifacts instead. It was decreed that only chartered exploration groups could explore the ruins, and all artifacts must be given to the pharaoh. This act only increased the amount of illegal looting, as many saw an opportunity for wealth. This caused much tension between Arathkelsara and Korenell.
Goblin attacks became more frequent around the Golbez mountains and Righteous Hills of Korenell. Many fear another great goblin horde could come at any time.
691 G.R. – *A small invasion of Goblinoids raided the northern border of Korenell, hitting Kassen and Julkuron. Julkuron barely repelled the invasion. In Kassen, a young group of heroes helped to stop the assault.
692 G.R. – *The lost artifact of Saint Aiden, the Star of Righteousness, was recovered from a lost monastery in the north of Korenell. The High Templar prepared to construct a new fortress along the northern border.
692 G.R. – The Alliance War. *In the northlands, the border-town of Bolvirk was attacked by a small army of Orcs and Jotuns. But the people manage to repel the invasion.
* Jotun attacks increased greatly in the lands norths of Aelgard.
* The northern Alliance reforms to meet the growing threat of Jotuns in the region.
* An army of Jotuns gathered in the Northrim mountains and northlands, they pushed south and east to reconquer the territory of the former Braellheim Empire.
* The Jotuns and orcs were defeated by the northern Alliance as the men of Krungar, Aelgard, and Hopesdawn united with the elves of Enaarvis and the dwarves of Kalavar. Casualties were high but the threat was ended, peace returned to the North.
693 G.R. – Tensions increased in Korenell as Princess Nirea continued to garner political support among the Righteous Hills, creating tension between the church and the crown.
*Adventurers called The Heroes of Kassen were accused of murdering Rizak Klemocc, a disgraced former Bishop of the Church of St. Aedin.
694 G.R. – *The Heroes of Kassen saved the Migarian colony of Gessedo from a virulent hurricane caused by ancient magic. The adventuring group was renamed the Stormbreakers.
*Unbeknownst to its citizens, the grand dwarven city of Brong was saved from certain doom by the Stormbreakers who defeated the Osodaroth (Bone Mages) and redirected the Nueggrimnur weapon.
*The Crimson Crusaders, a violent sect of Trinity crusaders, attempted to take over the Barony of Seveland in northern Korenell, but were thwarted by the Stormbreakers.
697 G.R. – The Azandrie people of the Azanghys Khanate arrived in the Freewind Savannah from over the western mountains. They temporarily settle into the region, threatening their neighbors with their sizable armies. Many expect raids and war to ensure in Korenell and Arathkelsara.
712 G.R. – *A group of travelers return to the village of Boreana in Astonia to meet with a mysterious fey elder known as Vagrec.
